OpenSourcery Integral to Success of River Rally 2008

May 6, 2008

Last week, OpenSourcery sent conservation/kayak duo Sean Larkin and Will Illingworth to the River Rally outside Sandusky, Ohio. They've returned (a tad weary from their tireless participation) to share highlights with those of us who had to stay home and enjoy a beautiful Portland weekend:

The event itself was a great success. Over 450 conservationists and nonprofit organizers were in attendance; thanks to Sean and Will, they all left with a better sense of OpenSourcery's commitment to the conservation community. Our team has dedicated a great deal of energy and thought to helping river conservation organizations benefit from the incredible web tools available. Now we hope to forge lasting relationships with our new friends.

Together, Sean and Will led training sessions on e-waste, content management systems, web 2.0 mashups, and, perhaps most importantly, open sourceOpen source software is computer software for which the human-readable source code is made available under a copyright license (or arrangement such as the public domain) that meets the Open Source Definition. fundraising tools. Due to their combined interest and expertise, they were able to educate conservationists on a range of topics and even cover a couple of sessions whose scheduled speakers couldn't make the trip.
